Hello everyone!

I go by the name Chisom, but you can also call me CNN.

I am a passionate sports enthusiast, with a recent keen interest in women's football.

My fascination with women's football began with my admiration for certain players at Chelsea, such as Fran Kirby, Ji So Yun, Magda, and the former coach Emma Hayes.

Over time, I have come to appreciate the exceptional talent of these players, believing they can rival today's male football stars. Before delving into our main discussion, I would like to provide a brief overview of the history of women's football.

Barclays Women's Super League.

Women's football has a long history dating back to the 19th century, although it was initially discouraged and considered taboo. However, in the late 20th century, there was a notable resurgence in its popularity.

The establishment of the FIFA Women's World Cup in 1991 played a crucial role in advancing the sport's growth. Today, the success of various tournaments has significantly increased.

Similar to men's football, women's football also features competitions worldwide.

FIFA, the governing body, organizes the Women's World Cup for national teams every four years, following a year after the Men's World Cup. Additionally, there are leagues such as the WSL, Liga F, UEFA Women's Champions League for top clubs in Europe, making women's football equally competitive as men's football.

The Influence of Women's Football in Pop Culture.

Women's football has a rich history intertwined with societal norms and cultural shifts. In the realm of pop culture, this sport has gained prominence through various mediums:

  • Movies and Documentaries: Films like "Bend It Like Beckham" and documentaries such as "Dare to Dream: The Story of the U.S. Women's Soccer Team" have brought women's football into the spotlight, inspiring audiences globally.

  • Music and Entertainment: Pop stars like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift have shown support for women's football, performing at major events like the FIFA Women's World Cup, further elevating its popularity.

  • Social Media and Influencers: Platforms like Instagram and TikTok have provided players with a platform to connect with fans, showcasing the personal side of the sport and fostering a strong community.

Now is female football also important?

For long, a lot of people have been speculating on whether women’s football is as important as men’s football and it has been a complex argument on both sides. Although women’s football has had drastic success in the past years, there are still some changes that should be made.

Female footballers have exceptional skills and tactical understanding just like male footballers, they also have role models for the younger female generation who inspire them to pursue their football dreams just like the men.

Using myself as an example, I wish to be a coach after Emma Hayes became my role model.

Also, just like men, women’s football generates a good amount through sales of tickets, merch, and sponsorships.

Conclusion.

Despite the women's team facing challenges such as limited resources and coaching staff, as well as a significant pay gap compared to the men's team, I believe that with time, they will progress and reach a similar level.

As I mentioned earlier, there are individuals who oppose women participating in sports. By addressing this issue, we can all acknowledge that the women's team will greatly improve and achieve their full potential.
